Skardu is the capital of Baltistan is elevated 2,438 metres above the sea level. Balti people’s culture is a mixture of Tibetan and Caucasian due to the similarity of its culture, lifestyle and architecture with Tibet, due to this reason Baltistan is also known as the "Tibet-e-Khurd" or “Little Tibet”. Apart from its unparalleled bunch of mountain summits and glaciers Baltistan's five valleys - Shigar, Skardu, Khaplu, Rondu and Kharmang are distinguished for their delicious fruits such as peaches, apricots, apples and pears.
By Air: Skardu is directly linked to the Islamabad (capital of Pakistan) by PIA, which runs one flight daily.
